Attaining a Sustainable Home
Energy Sustainability Program
As part of Therma-Check's Energy Sustainability Program for those who wish to establish and maintain an energy balance for their homes, our Certified Ecologist's will assess the carbon emissions from your home's energy usage patterns. In addtion, we will document the amount which your property's existing "green" features are presently off-setting these emissions. It may be the case that your property may in fact be sequestering more carbon than is being produced by your lifestyle and home management. If so, you may not have a carbon emission deficit, but a surplus, which indicates you are providing significant benefits to the environment in terms of balanced personal C02 emissions and absorption. If you do have a deficit, we can advise what you can do to achieve full offset status based on the energy inefficiencies of your property and home. See more on how energy audits and our other services benefit the environment here.
Such actions taken to balance your energy consumption and carbon emissions can improve the ecological conditions of your property and home, as well as benefit the global environment. For example, we can advise you as to the types and locations for tree plantings and other landscape features on your property to absorb your excess carbon emissions. Alternatively, through our partnerships with reputable organizations we can offer guidance whereby you might make a tax-deductible contribution for off-site tree plantings calculated to match the carbon emission offsets needed. Documentation and certifications of such contributions can be provided to the homeowner. See more here...
Part of the effort required to document the quantity of carbon being currently offset by your property's features and energy usage involves taking various measurements and assessing the condition of existing trees on your site. Thus, our price for our Energy Sustainability service depends partly on the number of trees you have. In our basic price for an Energy Sustainability Investigation we include the assessment and measurements for mature trees on a typical lot of up to one acre in size. Larger lots or forested properties would require additional effort and costs.
How the Services Differ
Energy Sustainability Investigations and Green-Certified Inspections are independent programs, although they are typically combined. Some homeowners, such as those selling their home, may wish to obtain a Green Certification in order to increase the marketability and buyer appeal of their house, and would not necessarily need a Energy Sustainability Investigation. Although combining both services could offer substantially greater benefits for a home seller than either one alone.
Existing homeowners usually desire both services to increase their home's market value and improve the ecological and environmental benefits of their property. Many also wish to lower their overall contribution to planetary carbon emissions through this unique combination of services, including a full energy audit.
No other energy audit firm or any company, as far as we know, offers the combination of services that includes energy audits, infrared thermal imaging, Green Certification Inspections and Green Sustainability Investigatons. Therma-Check, LLC is able and qualified to do so because in addition to being Certified Energy Auditors, we are also Certified Ecologists and Professional Enivironmental Scientists (see our Qualifications).
